Black Mountain & Eagle Bluff

Black Mountain & Eagle Bluffs

July 06, 2025 – Gerard Laman

Six of us met at Burnaby City Hall on this warm & sunny day. We started the hike at about 9am from the Black Mountain Lodge. The first 3km of the trail is a steep climb but fortunately it was mostly in the shade of the trees. We had a look at Cabin Lake that was quiet because it was still early. We continued our hike to the highest of the two Black Mountain, the North Peak, seven meters higher than the more popular Black Mountain South Peak. Here we had an unobstructive view of the Two Lions as we were the only ones at this spot. After a quick snack we returned to Cabin Lake and continued to the second Black Mountain. It was already busy there when we reached the summit. We continued our hike descending to Owen Lake from where we followed the trail to Eagle Bluffs. It was very busy at the bluffs where we stayed for our lunch. After lunch we hiked back to the Owen Lake junction and from there, we followed the trail to Sam Lake. Here two of us went for a swim, after this we continued with some more climbing to the junction and from there, we descended back to the parking lot. The descend had its own difficulties with lots of loose rocks. We all had a great hike and were happy that we had started early because it was really getting warm in the afternoon.
