Mt Gardner Hike
Trip Report - Mt. Gardner Hike Saturday, April 19, 2025 Report prepared by: Monisha Seven BOC members and a guest left the Burnaby City Hall before 7:45 am to beat the long weekend traffic and catch the 9:05 am ferry to Bowen Island. The parking lot at the ferry terminal was already full so we parked at the Gleneagles Community Centre and walked down to the terminal. We started our hike via Crippen Regional Park at 9:30 am and enjoyed a short break at the beautiful Killarney Lake at 10:00 am. Then we started our leisurely ascend via lower, mid and upper skid trails, chit-chatting and taking casual breaks along the way. After reaching the top of Mt. Gardner, we ventured to platforms on both sides of the summit and were rewarded with magnificent views and sunshine. After spending a relaxing hour on top, we began our decent at 2:00 pm and reached the terminal at 4:30 pm. This gave some of us plenty of time to enjoy an ice cream before boarding the 5:10 pm ferry back. An interesting aspect our hike was a group of three non BOC hikers who kept reaching out to our hike leader for direction and advice throughout our day. Our hike leader graciously adopted that group and led them up and down the mountain. They were also handed out a BOC business card and encouraged to consider becoming members of our club. All in all, it was a very satisfying day of hiking for all of us: great company, fantastic weather, gorgeous scenery, fresh air, and, lots of laughter along the way. Huge thanks to Su-Jane and Susan for driving us, Yoko for the photos and to Su-Jane for flawlessly leading our hike.
