Bowen Lookout - Snow Hike
With six BOC members we hiked the trail in Cypress Provincial Park to the Bowen Lookout. This hike was originally planned to be a snowshoe hike but the snow condition was not good for snowshoeing so we all used micro spikes. We had a clear sky and the temperature was about 3 0 C in the morning and would increase to about 10 0 C during the day. We first hiked the trail along Yew Lake. It was covered in ice and snow except for the narrow outlet. Shortly after the lake we had to start the climb to the Bowen Lookout. However, near the lookout we changed our destination for a short distance to view the Two Lions from the HSC Trail. After this we went down to the Bowen Lookout. We had planned to have our lunch there but it was unfortunately standing room only so we decided to have our lunch later when we were back at Yew Lake. We were happy to descend on the trail back to the lake area where we found a quiet spot. The picnic table was however under the snow. It was a great day to be in the snow-covered mountains.
