Minnekhada Regional Park
Gerard Laman
We had seven hikers on this Saturday with good weather for hiking. The early arrivals at the trailhead saw a bear along the road near the park. We didn’t see any in the park itself but several other people mentioned that they had seen a bear as well. The trail starts easy with a not too steep gravel path. On the trail was a sign about small frogs and indeed there were lots of them on the trail. This trail changed after some time to a regular hiking trail and a short but steep climb to the High Knoll. This is the highest point in the park and provides a great view over the Lower and Upper Marsh and also the Pit River and Metro Vancouver in the distance. We had a short break with a little bit of sunshine after which we continued our hike to the Addington Lookout. This lookout had in the past a gazebo to provide shelter on a rainy day but was unfortunately partly burned down and was therefore completely removed. We had a sunny day and no shelter was required. At this lookout we enjoyed our lunch. We continued our hike via the Fern Trail to the lookout point over the Lower Marsh. From here we continued our hike back to the parking lot. It was a very nice day for a hike with a great variety of trails in this small park.
