UBC M. Knapp Research Forest hike
Gerard Laman
We started our hike with nine BOC members on Saturday March 14 th . It promised to be agreat day with a clear sky. We followed the blue trail in the Research Forest to the summit. We first had to descent about 100 meters before we had to gain elevation of about 300 meters to reach the summit. The trail was good with some muddy sections and snow closer to the summit. At the summit we stopped for lunch, but unfortunately the trees had grown over the years and were blocking the view. After lunch we continued our hike on the blue trail that is a loop. This part of the trail is more like a hiking trail through the woods and we had some scrambling sections. We completed our hike with a visit to the “steam donkey” which is a small steam engine on a skid that was used for the hauling of felled trees in the forest.
It was a good hike on a beautiful day!
Thanks to drivers Karmen and Gerard
